Text Box: Assistant Referee Training Offered
Text Box:      In order to have an adequate number of qualified officials for the Ft. Meade Adult “A” League as well as for fall high school soccer, Matrix Sports Soccer will offer “Assistant Referee Instruction.”   The training will be offered on Thursday, February 22 at 6PM and again on Monday, March 5 at 6 PM, and is tentatively set to take place in the Anne Arundel Community College gymnasium.
In order to be assigned games at Ft. Meade, all referees must receive this formal AR training offered by Matrix Sports or have comparable AR training acquired through affiliation with USSF or NISOA.       All
Text Box: referees seeking to be upgraded from a Matrix Level 2 Official to a Level 3 Official must have AR Training.  (See “Matrix Officials Ranking System” at www.matrixsportsref.com-Soccer Library for more information.)

Text Box:      Matrix Sports Soccer is planning a spring “Play-Day Event”  for the upcoming soccer season.  The event will provide a round-robin tournament type format for Anne Arundel Rec teams of all ages to play in a competitive setting before officially beginning the their spring season.  Wins and losses will  not be tracked and  no trophies will be awarded.
The one-day event is being planned for Sunday, March 11 at an as yet undetermined venue.  We will be offering three shortened 25 minute games to each team registered, with two Matrix officials assigned to each game.
Text Box: The games will be “pay-on-the-field.”
The event will also be used as a vehicle for our newest officials, who will receive their classroom instruction in late February, to practice their skills before being assigned to actual spring league games.  New officials will work with their mentors, first in a shadowing scenario before actually getting a chance to blow their whistle.
More information will be emailed to everyone as soon as it is finalized.  Anyone wishing to help out with non-officiating duties should contact Mike Krebs, Event Director, at mikekrebs@juno.com.  All help will be appreciated.

Text Box: MATRIX SPORTS SOCCER DISTINGUISHED  SERVICE AWARD PRESENTED
The 2006 winner of the Matrix Sports “Distinguished Service Award” in soccer is Steve Jahnige, Commissioner for Broadneck Soccer in Arnold.
Steve has been a solid friend and ally of Matrix Soccer for many years and over the past three seasons has provided invaluable assistance in our training of new officials.  Each spring and fall season, Matrix trains new officials who are in need of valuable, on-field experience prior to stepping into real game situations.  It has been Steve who has  arranged the scrimmages, provided the teams and asked for nothing in return.
We truly appreciate all Steve has done for Matrix Soccer and it is with great pleasure that we announce him as this year’s recipient of this award.  Steve will receive a framed certificate and a Matrix fleece jacket as a token of our appreciation.
