Text Box: Bill Hesgard Receives    Matrix  ‘06 Interscho-lastic Soccer Award
Bill Hesgard, a long time soccer official who has been with Matrix Sports since its inception, has been chosen as the winner of the 2006 “Matrix Sports Interscholastic Soccer Award.”   The award was announced at the end-of-season meeting on December 13 and Bill will receive a commemorative certificate and a $50 gift certificate.
Bill was chosen from a field of several highly qualified nominees by the Awards Committee.  His commitment to officiating the high school game, both as a referee and assistant referee, his involvement in the Matrix Training program for new officials and his willingness to step up and accept many last minute assignments earned Bill this well deserved award.  Congratulations to Bill on a well deserved achievement and for all he has done for Matrix Sports and soccer.

Text Box:      The 2006 soccer season was very successful for Matrix Sports. We added new referees and additional games. We launched an enhanced training program and added new members to our NISOA chapter. We appointed new committee chairs and gave special recognition to those officials and administrators who stood out as examples to us all. Our game coverage, at the scholastic level, once again was 100%. Everyone working together contributed to the success we enjoyed this past fall and spring season. Your efforts are truly appreciated.
Moving into 2007 offers a full calendar of soccer activities, beginning with the Ft. Meade league and the AAYSA programs in the spring.  Last year a modest summer high school 7 v. 7 soccer program was started that we did, and that will

Meade “A” & “C” Leagues, the Arundel Cup and recreational soccer.  A Matrix Sports Soccer “Play Day” tournament is also being developed for the upcoming spring season.  If successful, an event such of this could become an annual activity for Matrix Sports Soccer.
As you can see, our "to do" list poses many challenges and we need your help in accomplishing our goals for this year. If you like or don't like something, step up and say so. Let us know. Get involved. You have the power to initiate change, Use it.

See you on the field!

Text Box: ·  Assessments will hopefully begin in the spring at Ft. Meade “A” League games and will continue during the fall high school season
· Access to Ft. Meade has been a problem in the past. Information about access to Ft. Meade is provided in a separate article in this newsletter.

Text Box:     As we enter the new year, a few words about what Matrix Sports-Soccer will be focusing on over the next twelve months is in order.
· We have held discussions with the Ft. Meade Adult League to utilize the diagonal system of control (center ref and 2 AR’s) and plan to use it for the “A” League games beginning this spring.  That will provide more referee opportunities, but will also require more officials to be available in the early evening hours.
Text Box: ·  If possible, please show yourself as available on the Arbiter if you are interested in officiating at Ft. Meade.
· As was discussed at the end-of-season meeting on December 13, assessments of officials will be our priority area of improvement in 2007.  It is the goal of Matrix Sports-Soccer to provide at least one assessment for all referees and all assistant referees in 2007.

Text Box: ACCESS TO FT. MEADE NOW EASIER
Access to Ft. Meade has been stream-lined to some degree and should not be a problem for officials this fall. Matrix referees should enter the post at the main gate (Rt. 175 at Reece Rd).  They will be directed to the check-in area and logged in after showing their driver’s license and registration.  Proof of insurance may be requested.
Unless threat levels rise, a search of the vehicle will likely not occur.
