       MESSAGE

Welcome to the inaugural issue of "Matrix Soccer Talk". The purpose of this publication is to keep you informed as to what is happening in Matrix Sports Soccer. For it to serve that purpose, we need your feedback as to what you would like to see addressed in these pages.  I encourage all of you to contact our new editor of the newsletter, Mr. Bill Tishey, if you have anything of interest you would like to share with our members.  Many thanks to Ken Ward for putting this issue together and John Moreira's skill in making it an electronic reality.

We have a full plate of schedules this fall that should provide plenty of opportunities for all of our officials.  I am very pleased that we have been able to begin working with Anne Arundel Community College as a venue for our training.  I encourage all of you to avail yourselves of the training that will be provided by Matrix this fall.

Thought for the day: "The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing." Yogi Berra.

Good luck in the upcoming season and I hope to see you on the field.

Text Box: Congratulations to the latest Matrix officials to attend the National Interscholastic Soccer Officials Association Camp in Elizabethtown, Pa.
The heat of early July welcomed seven Matrix officials to the rigorous 4 day camp, as these hearty soles sought to better themselves as soccer officials.  Three of the attendees were there after receiving a $75 Matrix Scholarship to cover their expenses.  The Scholarship winners were Matt Wilson,  Mike Krebs and Bruce Hutchinson.  Also attending  were Jim Wilson, Bill Hesgard, Steve Jones and Kevin Utter.
Overall, there were 63 attendees from all over the country at the camp.  Congratulations to Bruce Hutchison who scored the second highest grade on the written test.
Officials attending the camp and successfully passing the required written and physical tests are certified as eligible to officiate college games.
Text Box: This year’s group brings the total number of Matrix officials who have attended the NISOA Camp to 17.  Last year Jon Pitonzo (who was selected as Top NISOA Camper for 2005), Pete Jones, Tony Nieswonger, Bob Pierce, Bea McQuarrie and Ken Ward all attended the course in E’town.  The year prior to that saw Bob Jones and Amie Chilcoat attend the course.  Earlier in their illustrious careers, long time officials Al Patrick and Bill McMullen also attended the NISOA Training Course.
Matrix will continue to support the efforts of our officials to hone their soccer officiating skills by providing annual scholarships to the NISOA camp.  Scholarship winners are selected by our Awards Committee, and the criteria for selection can be found in the “Library” section at the Matrix  website:
